December US hybrid car sales figures of 17697 units showed an increase of 7.02 per cent on the November figure of 16536 units. The Toyota Prius and Camry hybrids continue to dominate the hybrid market, however sales of the Lexus RX400h were up a massive 134 percent on the November figure (624 units vs. 1463 units). Seven electric utility providers are joining the Ford and Electric Power Research Institute plug-in hybrid electric vehicle program to conduct real world testing with Ford Escape PHEVs. - Utility companies and a state research agency from New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Massachusetts and Michigan join testing and research already underway in California.
- Ford also announced a new partnership with Johnson Controls-Saft, which will supply a complete battery system for Ford’s first production PHEVs in 2012.
- Ford’s electric vehicle plan includes a family of hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles by 2012.

Lexus revealed the 2010 HS 250h, the world’s first dedicated luxury hybrid vehicle, at the North American International Auto Show.The HS 250h will be Lexus’ fourth hybrid and the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its lineup. It also will be the first Lexus to utilize carbon-neutral Ecological Plastic materials in a new futuristic cockpit and interior design. A welcomed addition to Lexus’ entry-luxury sedan lineup, the HS 250h fits nicely between the IS luxury sport sedan and the ES luxury sedan. Research has shown that more than 60 percent of entry-luxury car buyers would have considered a hybrid if available, and the HS will provide these consumers with a viable purchase option. Toyota Introduces Certified Used Hybrid Program |

In an effort to attract new buyers to the hybrid market, Toyota has launched an all-new Toyota Certified Used Hybrid (TCUH) program, an extension of the Toyota Certified Used Vehicles (TCUV) brand which provides added inspection and warranty coverage on certified used Toyota hybrids.
“The program is a great way to increase awareness of certified used hybrid vehicles,” said TCUV Marketing Manager, Steve Gallagher. “As more hybrids enter the used vehicle marketplace, Toyota Certified Hybrids offer high-quality options to customers interested in purchasing these fuel-efficient vehicles.”
