August 2009 – Ford has announced that it has developed an intelligent vehicle-to-grid communications and control system for its plug-in hybrid electric vehicles that “talks” directly with the nation’s electric grid.This new technology – which builds on Ford’s advancements such as SYNC®, SmartGauge™ with EcoGuide and Ford Work Solutions™ – allows the vehicle operator to program when to recharge the vehicle, for how long and at what utility rate.

General Motors' plug-in hybrid technology will be introduced in a new Buick crossover vehicle in 2011, Tom Stephens, GM vice chairman of product development, announced here today during the Management Briefing Seminars.The yet-to-be-named Buick crossover will launch in late 2010 offering a family of fuel-efficient direct-injected gasoline engines, followed in 2011 by the plug-in hybrid model. |

US June 2009 hybrid car sales totalled 26,205 units, up 2 % on the May figure of 25,693 units. Japanese manufacturers Toyota and Honda continue to dominate the hybrid market with 5 models in the top six. Fords Fusion hybrid however, is continuing increase its share of the “sub Prius” market. The Fusion stands in fourth place with sales of 2,058 units in June. |

US hybrid car sales for May 2009 totalled 25,693 units, up 18.2% on the April figure of 21,735 units. Honda’s Insight sold 2,780 units, and its stable mate, the Honda Civic Hybrid sold 2,077 units. The Camry hybrid performed well with sales of 2,941 units. Toyota’s Prius hybrid continues to dominate with May sales of 10,091 units. |

New products helped Ford Motor Company achieve its highest market share in three years, even as Ford decreased incentive spending in May. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 155,954, up 20 percent versus April and the highest sales for any month since July 2008. Combined sales for the Fusion and Milan hybrids and the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner hybrids totaled 3,906 – a new company record for hybrid sales in a single month. The previous record was set in April 2006, with 3,420 hybrids.
